In the story 'We Shall Overcome': Reliving the Civil Rights Era they talk about a book that incorporates the civil rights of Blacks. They briefly talk about Rosa Parks and the bus boycott. THey talk about Blacks in the military and how even though they had medals a white lady wouldn't even give them water. They came out of the military to no democracy in the states. They talk about James Forman and his book. Tavis Smiley talks about how imprtant it was to incorporate idols such as Rosa Parks, MArtin Luther King, and others. Travis was friends to many of these leaders. Travis wrote the book because he had taught the subject of the Civil Rights Movement for almost 40 years. Travis wants the youth to realize the sacrafice it took. Even as teenagers he wants kids to get involved. For more information go to this website.
