In September I was so much different. I used to look forward to going to school and I actually did my work. Now I look at my grades and well ... they suck! I really wish I would've done better this year. I read my first blog and I was the most random person talking about who I like and stuff. Half of that has changed because I can't stand my old best friend Missy and now my best friends are Alex, Lilly, Katherine, Jessica and Sara. I was really supried by the fact that the media took the time to notice something positive instead of negative. I appreciate that when people ask me what school i go to I can say Animo Venice. LAUSD is now implementing small schools into their structure and by eight years they should have more small schools. I think that is great and I'm sure more teenagers will succeed in life. The report basically talked about te great impact small schools have on teenagers these days. I learned that some of the other schools don't have a lot of teams like I though they did. I guess all that will come with time. I personally wish the school had more things but i'm willing to sacrafice because this school will get me into college.

Mr. Barr talked about how he would work with us in order to start things at this school. He said we have to wear uniforms so that everyone is equal. He wanted us to know that we could start teams and work with MR. CHang ot make this school better.

The story he tokd about his mom buying him the bootleg adidas and also the part about his brother dying since he was into drugs.

I thought he was cool. He was very open and gave a legitamite answer to all the questions that were asked.

He said that this school would in fact become a part of this community and in this world. This is one of the 5 model schools and that is a huge responsibility.

QUESTIONS:

1) Do you think the author really fell into holes in the sidwalk? What do you think the "holes" in this poem are a methaphor for? What kinds of "holes" have you fallen into in your life?

The Holes represent allt he things that sidetrack us from succeeding in life. Ihave fallen into the hole of not doing homwork because I am broed with it so I decide not to do it. It is truly stupid and I am trying to catch up now.

2) When I first read this poem, I thought of what's happening to your grades. Some of you seem to be stuck in hole #2: your grades go down; you pretend you don't see it; you have "F"s again; you can't believe you're in the same place; you say it isn't your fault; it takes you forever to get out or you don't get out at all. Which hole are you in right now? Why do you think so?

In my situation I went from a 3.7 to a 1.9. That to me is ridiculous and I really need to get it up. I've gotten straight A's my whole life and now I'm slipping. I really am bored out of my mind.

3) In terms of your grades, what do you have to do to reach step V and not fall into the hole of letting your grades drop? If you have already reached step V, how did you get there; and what advice can you give to the students who are stilling falling into "holes"?

I need to focus on my work and put that as my first priority. My biggest problem is I get bored way too easily and then I want to work on something new, forgetting about what I have to do at that moment. I really need to choose between having fun and being responsible.

I feel that it was a stupid mistake on their part and they deserved a consequence. I do think it should have just been suspension. I was at the meeting and they were truly sorry and honestly wanted to come back.

I feel that it was too harsh but there was nothing we could do because it is State Laws that say they can no longer attend the school. I along with the other ASB members tried out hardest to make a difference.

c. What do you think about yesterday’s student assembly?

Many of the students were so disrespectful and as I was up there I got frustrated as well as Kaya because so one was listening, everyone was having side conversations and being rude to a sincere peer. I was frustrated too.

d. What do you think could be done differently in the future?

Students and teachers can get along and respect eachother so there won't be assemblies like that any more.

A leader is a person who is not afraid to be themselves and stand up for what thye feel is right. A good leader is someone who uses their talents to woo in followers to do positive things for our society. A bad leader would be someone who sets up goals that better themselves or it hurts other people.

2) When and where have you been a leader? Describe the moment you were a leader.

One time when all my friends were going to get high I told them that I wasn't going to because it was dumb and I could have fun without that. Then I got 2 people not to do it and they haven't since that day.

3) In your life, who do you consider a leader? Why?

I consider my mom to be a leader because she is hardworking and even though I don't act like it, I look upto her. She is smart, crazy, and responsible and she tries to lead me to have a prosperous life.

Yesterday a guest speaker named Danny Trejo came to our school to keep us youngsters out of trouble. He was hilarious and made me laugh because all the stuff he said was true and I know people like the ones he described. He talked about his childhood with drugs, gangs, and getting locked up. The part that I like the most is when he would do the impressions of people and told us that the only good in his life came out of helping people. I like that part because it made me realize that i should start doing good for other people. From this talk I learned to keep up with my grades and actually care a lot about school. I also learned that it is sometimes better to not intimidate people because it gets me in trouble.

In the story 'We Shall Overcome': Reliving the Civil Rights Era they talk about a book that incorporates the civil rights of Blacks. They briefly talk about Rosa Parks and the bus boycott. THey talk about Blacks in the military and how even though they had medals a white lady wouldn't even give them water. They came out of the military to no democracy in the states. They talk about James Forman and his book. Tavis Smiley talks about how imprtant it was to incorporate idols such as Rosa Parks, MArtin Luther King, and others. Travis was friends to many of these leaders. Travis wrote the book because he had taught the subject of the Civil Rights Movement for almost 40 years. The thing I will remember about my generation is George Bush becoming President and getting re-elected. Many have come ot say that the U.S. will become like the Roman Empire and I'm starting to believe it's true. The U.S. is always trying to control the world and I can't believe that people actually voted for Bush once again. He has started a War against innocent people and for what? Nothing... This will be important to me because I will never forget the stories of little children dying in Iraq. Winter Vacation

Today is my first day back from winter break and I'm really tired. On Christmas I stayed at my house and kicked it. My cousins came over and we played football and video games all day long. Missy and her boyfriend broke up because of my stupid cousin! LoL! He sent David messages saying that Missy went out with him! Haha what a loser! I worked most of hte time and when I didn't I would hang out at Missy's or mess with Sergio and Hector! We did the usual prank calls and people started to laugh! I watched one of the funniest movies... Napoleon Dynamite! My uncle Andy is like living with us right now because he doesn't want to stayt in Echo Park because of something! He's really funny and makes me laugh! On New Year's Eve we had a huge house party and all my family and thier friends came over! It was so fun because when my uncles are drunk they give me money! We played poker and Texas Hold Em ...... Black Jack ....... Rummy and more! I put in $15 and lost $10! My uncle Alfonso got all the money because my uncle Andy lost a bluff! We didn't go to sleep until 5a.m. and everyone just crashed at our house! It was a funny vacation except when I had to do my homework!

Why do you hurt yourself?
Dear Students,
I want to tell you something that I've been noticing this month. Many of you like to hurt yourself.For some reason, you guys like to do things that end up hurting yourselves. Some of you still refuse to complete all of your homework. In the end, if you don't do homework, who do you hurt? Do you hurt the teachers or your parents? Maybe a little bit. But if you think about it, not doing your work won't hurt me because I'll still get my paycheck. You, however, will suffer in the end because you won't be prepared for college.If you do drugs or inhale stuff, who do you hurt? Not the teachers or your parents because we're not the ones damaging our brains. A lot of you still don't understand how hard it is to succeed in college. You will need all of the brain cells that you have right now. Each brain cell you kill means you're one brain cell dumber than other people. So, tell me, who do you hurt in the end when you do drugs?If you act out in class, and you don't learn the stuff, who do you hurt in the end?If you fight, and you get suspended from school, who do you hurt in the end?If you copy homework or cheat on tests, and you don't learn the stuff, who do you hurt in the end?If you need help with homework, and you don't come to office hours, who do you hurt in the end? If you have a problem in your life, and you don't get help from us, who ends up getting hurt in the end?When I said "Think before you act" in my last letter, this is what I meant. Before you actually do something stupid, think about what will happen and who you're going to hurt. I'll bet you, in the end, you will hurt yourself the most. There's enough pain in this world; why do you think adults are always looking for happiness? So, if you can't stop others from hurting you, then you can at least stop yourself from hurting yourself.If you don't understand what I mean, come talk to me. This is a letter my technology teacher wrote to my class. He also wanted my fellow classmates and I to respond to these questions.

Describe a situation where you had “hurt” yourself in the way that I described in my letter.

In eighth grade I was wrapped up in other things and not paying attention to school. I started to not do my homework and not pay ateention in class. I was disrespectful to my teachers and even some of my friends. I let my friends and having fun come before school. This was stupid because now I have to work even harder to catch up with all the information I never learned when I had the oppurtunity. This was my biggest mistake because the only one I hurt in the end was myself.

Discuss what you can do to prevent other students from hurting themselves.

To prevent other students from hurting themselves I could just talk to them. Sometimes if you just tell people that you think what they are doing is stupid or hurtful they will stop. I know it's stupid that people do these things but in the end whatever you do or say won't help if they choose to not listen and hurt themselves.

Talk about whether my letter made sense or not. Do you agree or disagree with what I said? Why?

I understood the letter because my mom told me something similar to this. She said that I could have all the talent in the world but if I choose not to use it, then I'm just hurting myself. I agree with what Mr. Hsu said because I constantly see and hear about people getting into fights, doing drugs, and drinking. I'm not saying I'm perfect because I've done stupid thing too and looking back I would take back most of it.

Halloween Weekend

On Friday I worked with ASB to give the dance some finishing touches and then went to the hall where it was at. The dance was a success and everyone was having a fun time dancing and eating pizza with nachos. It was fun event though I had no one to go with but it was okay because I just danced with everyone. On Saturday I went to Venice High to watch my little cousins play football. They won both games and I didn't stay to watch the Peewee's play because I went ot Missy's and we met David over at the Haunted House. It wasn't that scary except for the lights and I was laughing because Missy and David made me go first. On Halloween I went TRICK-OR-TREATING because I wanted candy for FREE. I went with Missy, her family, and David. We got to walk of by ourselves and kicked it on a lawn. David and me got into an argument for fun and he licked my a**. I was hurting the rest of the night and Missy just sat there laughing. We went to all the doors, even the dark ones, and yelled out at the top of our lungs, "TRICK-OR-TREAT!!!" It was funny. We got a grip of candy, a pumpkin, and a Vote for Kerry sign. I had a fun time. THe only thing that sucked was getting up this morning since we got home late.

Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Judging

Today in class I took a personality test and I got that acronym E.N.F.J which stands for Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Judging. Extraverted means a gregarious and unreserved person. To be intuitive means to have immediate apprehension or cognition. Feeling is one of the basic physical senses of which the sensations of touch and temperature are characteristic. To be judging is to to form an opinion carefully weighing evidence and testing premises. I feel that all these words describe me a lot because they describe how I act and the things I do. ENFJs are the benevolent 'pedagogues' of humanity. ENJF's have charisma that draw many into their schemes. Many ENFJs have the power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills. ENFJ's are global learners and that is definatly me because I love to learn and experience new and exciting things. Extraverts tend to have a lot of friends and usually have intense rlationships with people. although their relationships are intense they are also personable and warm, but good friendships are very rare. I am a very good worker and like to finish things on time. I am very organized and responsible allowing me to do a tremendous amount of work. My companion would be a E.N.T.J standing for Extraverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging. It's almost the same as my personality except I feel things instead of always think about them. Some of the people with the same personality as me are David, King of Israel, Abraham Lincoln, Johnny Depp, Oprah Winfrey, Dick Van Dyke, Michael Jordan, and Ben Affleck. Animo Venice Elections

Personally I think the elections at Animo Venice Charter are based on popularity. For instance I feel that I am a great candidate to run for Secretary, but feel that I might not win due to me not being so popular. Oh well at least I can say that I made an endeavor. I feel that I am qualified for this position because I currently have straight A's and I am very responsible. I feel that I have quite an ability for writing and hope to only further my skills. So in the popularity part of the elections I agree with Mr. Chang completely. I feel that everyone should choose the candidate based on their GPA, detentions, and their ability to lead the school into success. To make this a better election I will vote for the most qualified candidate that can make a difference in our school. I will not just vote for someone who is my friend if I know their not going to foolow through on their promises. I can't wait until elections and can only hope I get the position of Secretary. My strongest learning styles were logical, kinesthetic, intrapersonal and interpersonal.
My weakest learning styles were verbal and visual.
Three things that I can do to improve the way I learn are pay attention, listen to detail, and look at every aspect of things. I feel that I can easily remember things enabling me to attain good grades. I have like a photographic memory which means I can hear or see something once or twice and remember it for a long time.

My name is Alicia and I am fourteen years old currently attending Animo Venice Charter High School. I love ot have a fun time and am very comical. I love to laugh and enjoy life. My favorite car in the whole wide world is a 69' Camaro. I love everything about that car because it's fast, sassy, and it just looks hard.
